Designers pin samples to a board and imagine the room. Here the samples go straight into it: a whole flat cut open, with a living room, a dining corner, a bedroom and a study. Every surface takes a real material, every piece of furniture can be picked up, and the sun moves. The three together decide how a room feels.
Drag a sample from the tray onto a surface. Wood goes on the floor, the slat wall and the woodwork; stone on the floor and the walls; paint on the walls and the slats; fabric on the sofa and chairs, the cushions, the bed and the rugs. While you hold it over a surface you see a patch of it in place. Let go and it spreads. Or click a surface first, then click a sample.
Drag a piece from the Furniture tab into the room, or pick up anything already there. Pieces snap to a 10 cm grid and to the walls, and will not go through each other or the partitions. While you hold one, scroll to turn it. Click a piece to turn it or take it out.
Drag the sun along its arc over the flat, or use the Daylight slider. Morning comes in low through the dining window on the left; around midday the sun stands behind the flat and falls through the big window; in the evening it rakes in low and gold over the open side; after dark the lamps take over and the moon comes round. The four previews on the right are the flat you have made, at four times of day.
The meter reads the room as you change it. Bright comes from pale surfaces and daylight, which bounce light around. Cozy comes from warm tones, soft texture and low, gold light. Moody comes from dark, deep surfaces and pools of lamplight. It is a rule of thumb, not a science, and every room is a mix.
